Swapping Artwork Between Illustrator and Illustrator

Illustrator and Illustrator are effective programs on their own, but many artists discover that using a mix of the 2 programs allows these to produce beautiful artwork for publication. You will find three fundamental methods to move Illustrator files into an Illustrator document.

You are able to "place" a Illustrator image into an Illustrator document, or place Illustrator artwork right into a Illustrator file a while using File > Place command either in program. This is actually the "time-honored" approach to moving personal files in to the other program. The only real caveat would be that the image (or artwork) should be inside a data format the other program can see.

Illustrator is excellent at reading through multiple file formats. Illustrator is a little more limited within the formats it knows, but when a Illustrator file is within a readable format (e.g. TIFF, Presen, JPEG, etc.) you can just make use of the File > Place command and choose the look. Illustrator will set the preferred image within the Illustrator file, and you'll have some capability to manipulate the file within Illustrator.

The 2nd method to introduce a Illustrator file into Illustrator (or the other way around) may be the attempted-and-true Clipboard. Simply copy the file elements you would like in one program while using Copy command, and paste it in to the other program while using Paste command. You will find restrictions to presenting the Copy-Paste method. It does not work very well for big files, and you may easily swamp the receiving program by pasting a sizable file in it.

The 3rd way of presenting personal files in one program in to the other is dragging and shedding. If you wish to take Illustrator art and set it inside your Illustrator file, both programs should be open. Choose the artwork you need to transfer, and just drag it from the Illustrator window to the Illustrator window. To consider Illustrator art into Illustrator, simply choose the artwork from a wide open Illustrator window, drag it for an open Illustrator window and drop it into Illustrator.

You may also place pathways from Illustrator into Illustrator files. While using Path Selection tool in Illustrator, choose and duplicate the pathways you need to move, then paste them into Illustrator.
